The Island of Lewis is the main island in the Western Isles or Outer Hebrides. The main town, Stornoway, is the terminal for the ferry from Ullapool. regular flights by British Regional Airways from Inverness and Glagow arrive at the airport which lies just outside the town. The ferry from Ullapool takes 2hrs 40mins while the ferry from Uig (Skye) to Tarbert (Harris) takes 1hr 35mins. Journey time by air is approximately 30mins from Inverness and 50mins from Glasgow. From Stornoway - Take the A859 to Tarbert. At Leurbost, turn right on to the A858 which leads to Callanish. From Tarbert - Take the A859 to Stornoway. At Leurbost , turn left on to the A858 which leads to Callanish. This road will take you across the moors to the villages of Garynahine, Callanish and Breasclete. Once you reach Breasclete please refer to the map above to pinpoint Loch Roag Guest House.
Most of the road signs in Lewis and Harris are in Gaelic and as your map will probably have English spellings. Click here to view a translation list that you may find useful.
Public Transport
There is a limited bus service on the island - the nearest stop is 400metres away. To make the most of your stay with us, a car is essential to see all the places of interest. Air fare deals often make it more economical to fly to Stornoway from Inverness, Glasgow or from further south and hire a car locally.
